Rod Morrison
Rod Morrison is is an independent consultant and the Managing Director of Esmond Management Consulting Pty Ltd. His areas of professional expertise include change and transition management, quality improvement, project management, performance management, business planning and performance, negotiation, influencing and leadership development.
A great deal of Rod’s experience has been developed through working with people in the public, commercial and not for profit sectors, to develop strategic and business plans, particularly in the context of organisational change. Rod has worked closely with senior and middle managers and business owners to specify requirements, develop approaches and implement practical solutions that align to organisational aims. He has facilitated small, medium and large groups (both in Australia and abroad) through organisational change seminars and workshops. He has also delivered numerous residential and non-residential learning and development programs on topics including leadership, negotiation and influence, stakeholder engagement and project management.
Prior to commencing human resources consulting in 1998, Rod held management positions within the Australian Public Service (APS) including as Director of Human Resource Development (Public Employment Placement Enterprise) and Director of Management Development (Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs). Rod had also worked on a two-year World Bank project in Kyrgyzstan, focused on labour market reform and regional development.
Industry expertise, Experience, and Areas of Specialisation
Rod facilitates the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade “Head of Mission” preparatory program – a two-day program for outgoing Australian Ambassadors and High Commissioners. Rod has facilitated numerous planning days for a range of public sector agencies and private sector organisations. Recently, Rod was engaged by the High Commission in Samoa to facilitate the development of key objectives and priorities for the oncoming 12 months. Rod has also worked with the Treasury, building performance management capability through workshops for their most senior executive officers.
Between 2003-2018, Rod consulted to BMW Australia as a Retail Performance Management Coach, working with numerous dealerships focusing on both sales and aftersales performance in a project management capacity. He debriefed Employee Engagement Survey reports with several dealerships in 2014-2015 and 2017 and assisted in planning action going forward. Prior to 2003, Rod consulted to General Motors over a five year period, examining and strengthening negotiation capability with purchasing areas of the organisation in Australia, China (PRC), India and Indonesia.
Rod provided specialist advice through his role as the HR Advisor to the Mongolia Australian Scholarship Program between 2003 – 2011, focusing on governance and strengthening HR management within the Mongolian Civil Service.
Qualifications, Accreditations and Certifications
Rod is accredited to administer the full suite of Leadership Performance Profiles (LPP’s 360°) feedback instruments, Team Management Profile (TMP), DiSC system, Herrmann Brain Dominance Index (HBDI) and is an accredited DaCUM facilitator. He is a Fellow Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia New Zealand (FIML), and holds membership with the Institute for Learning Professionals (ILP), the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD). He is trained in executive coaching through the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL).
